You are probably wondering about the name Hygieia. Hygieia is the Greek Goddess of Health. She is often depicted as a young woman feeding a large snake that was wrapped around her body. Sometimes the snake would be drinking from a jar that she carried. The name of Hygieia survives in present times in words such as hygiene. Her sacred snake together with the rod of Asklepios (her father) is the symbol for medicine.
